Coffee and Conversations

Hi there!
My name is Grace Brown, and I am a Student Leadership Assistant (SLA) for the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement at East Carolina University.
This blog is dedicated to one of the Center's newest Program, Coffee and Conversations. The Program hopes to provide a safe and respectful environment in which students can discuss current event topics that impact their lives. The hopes of this program is to help students not only learn more about topics, but to learn to talk across differences and learn what steps to take in order to make an impact.

So, how does the program work?

Prior to each meeting, students will be asked to either read an article or watch a video pertaining to the selected topic for that week. Those who then attend the program will spend the first portion of the hour reviewing materials and sources, and will then discuss whatever they feel applicable to that session. All of this will be done, you guessed it, over coffee and light refreshments.

Who can attend the program?

Any and everyone is invited to attend any of the sessions this semester. Attendees can range from freshman to professors, no one needs to be an expert in any of the selected topics, nor is there a minimum amount of sessions one is required to attend. All the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement asks of participants is to come with an open mind to discuss topics in a respectful manner.
